Down to the Wire, Improper Cabling – Glen Rock, NJ
While arriving to a job in Glen Rock, NJ, we noticed that the neighbor’s tree had two cables that broke due to bad placement. Cables should be installed 2/3rd’s up the tree from the defect or union, which in this case is the crotch of the tree. Of course Z Tree Experts addressed this with the
homeowner immediately and advised of the safety risks and hazards they have.
The structural integrity of a tree is determined by the angles formed between limbs. For example, a “U” shape is more structurally sound than a narrow “V” shaped connective area. Young trees are at much less of a risk for splitting or breaking than mature trees, but shouldn’t be ignored. As a tree matures, the weight of the larger limbs, canopy or stress from winds, moisture or snow may overburden the tree causing it to break. Addressing these potential hazards early on can greatly extend the life of your trees, protect your property and even save you money! Adding cables and rods to your beautiful trees is much more cost effective than a removal. Win-win, you keep your trees, and your cash!
What we do:
Cables and brace rods are intended to stabilize weak or damaged branches and/or multiple limbs. Cables, made of extra high strength steel, are installed in the crown of the tree, about 2/3rd’s of the way up from the connective or failure point. Brace rods are a more rigid, threaded rod installed closer to the unions of weak limbs and prevent twisting or motion within the tree. They are both meant to limit the movement of the braches to prevent any splitting or breakage during a weather event or structural failure.
Always consult a New Jersey Licensed Tree Expert (like us, at Z Tree Experts) when having trees inspected and bracing done, whether its rods or cables. Materials used and techniques must abide by industry standards set by the TCIA, and incorrect placement or technique could be dangerous and devastating to your property. Property owners should always be sure to consult Z Tree Experts for inspections of their structural supports yearly.
